Some of the VIL team

Vacuum Interrupters Limited (VIL) is a technology company  focussed on the technology of Vacuum Interrupters and switches used in Vacuum Circuit Breakers. The original VIL was formed in 1968 as a Joint Venture between GEC and Reyrolle-Parsons companies to research, develop, and manufacture commercial Vacuum Interrupters for use in Medium Voltage and High Voltage switchgear

The VIL company today was reformed by Dr Leslie Falkingham in 2005, who is a leading specialist in this field having joined the original VIL in Finchley, London, in 1978. The team includes former members of the Alstom World Centre of Excellence for Vacuum Switching Technology which was created by Dr Falkingham in 1990.

Our objective is to develop the most advanced technology and designs of Vacuum Interrupters (VI) in the world, and to provide this technology in a suitable form to our clients.

We perform our own research not only into VI and the switching function itself, but also into the fundamental technologies needed for VI manufacture. We are also active in International Standards development for IEC, IEEE, ANSI and BSI, as well as in specialist organisations such as CIGRE and the IEEE Switchgear committee.
